Dear
Parents
I
hope that this finds you well - contained within this year's March
newsletter are details of your children's achievements, which have
been considerable as you will see.
CELEBRATION
ASSEMBLY
On Friday 25 February I was able to congratulate the children on
their success. Our Year 6 produced an excellent set of entrance
and scholarship results for Year 7 entry to their next schools in
September. The following gained awards (mainly academic, with sport
and music to the fore):
Charlotte
Nott - 2 awards!
Freddie Duncalf
Courtney Dowinton
Ned Rae
Joel Sugarman
Lani Harker
William Broadway
The
vast majority will head on through to our Senior School and the
Principal commented that this was one of the best set of results
that he had seen from the Prep School.
Congratulations
to Year 6 for their successes and to my colleagues for their input.
SPORT
The Girls' Netball team remains unbeaten and they recently won the
Eryri Schools' title, held at Bangor on
23 February - they did not concede a goal! Well done to them and
their coach Mrs Collins,
TEAM:
Charlotte Nott (Captain); Beth Stevens; Catherine Davies; Anna Stevenson;
Lydia Parry; Amelia Dunton; Ellen Kirby; Olivia Ward and Sophie
Elliott.
The
boys have picked up silverware as well, as they have won the local
Hockey League and the Cup Competition, again, their coach: our parent
Mr Wynn Pritchard states that "the boys play a very structured
quality passing game. They work very well as a team, all playing
positional hockey". Congratulations to them and a big thank
you to Mr Pritchard who coaches them.
TEAM:
Harrison Holmes; Adam Scarff; George Nott; James Frost; William
Pullman; Sam Pritchard (Captain).
Our
ski team has just come back from the British Prep Schools Championships
in Glenshee, Scotland, where there was excellent snow. Our team
came 3rd out of the schools from south of the border (who have less
time on snow) and received medals. Mrs Elson and Mrs Collins ably
led the trip with support from several parents who were with their
children. I hope they all enjoyed it
Overall
the team came 9th out of 18 schools, which is a fine achievement
considering that this is an U13s event.
The squad consisted of: James Frost (Captain); Sophie Elliott; Daniel
Washington; Harrison Holmes; Max Edwards and T J Edwards.
Our
dancers have gone to the IAPS Area 7 Dance Celebration, having been
choreographed by Caroline Bell.
My thanks to Mrs Harding and Miss Chan for taking them to Cheshire
(and other parents who have gone to support the dancers).
Congratulations
are also in order to Adam Scarff who has been selected to play for
the Senior School U13s tennis team - well done.
THANK
YOU
A massive thank you to children, parents and colleagues who have
helped raise over £4000.00 for UNICEF with part of the monies
raised going to long-term projected around the Indian Ocean.
It
is Red Nose Day this Friday and details have been sent to you -
your generosity is used to benefit so many children.
INVITATION
You are invited to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
by Years 5 & 6 in the school hall at 6.30pm on Wednesday 16
and Thursday 17 March. Please contact Mrs Jesse in the school office
for tickets.
FOR
YOUR INFORMATION
Prep Department Interim Reports will be with you at the end of term.
Details
of our interschool chess final will follow: thank you to Mr Arthur
Jones.
Also:
well done to those in Circus Skills who demonstrated their talents
to friends and parents last Friday. Thank you to Mr Phil Gardiner
who runs the club, and Mr Roebuck and Mrs Bendall for supporting
the club.
YEAR
4 DYSLEXIA SCREENING
As part of our monitoring of your children we are proposing to test
our Year 4, using the NFER Dyslexia Screening,
by Half Term of the summer term. We shall send out a letter in due
course giving parents the option of whether they wish their child
to be screened.
FOLPS
FOLPS have asked me to give you advance notice of their summer events:
a Barn Dance on Friday 13 May and a Summer Fair on Friday 10 June
at school.
Best
wishes
Matthew
